How does Nella check bills before you approve them?

Every night Nella reads the bills and expenses entered in QuickBooks and FreeAgent over the last 35 days, and the draft bills waiting for approval in Xero. It checks each one against your own books: a possible duplicate of a bill already there, coding that doesn’t fit the attached document, a new account for that supplier, an amount above the supplier’s usual range over the last 12 months, a missing due date or document, and coding that doesn’t follow the supplier’s rule. The bills that need a look come to your Nella board in one item, each with what was found.

What it does not do

Stated plainly, because a figure you can trust is one whose limits you know.

• Nella flags; it changes nothing by itself. A bill changes only when you approve the change on Nella’s card.
• The check runs once a night. A bill entered after the run is checked the next night.
• An unusual-amount check needs history: a supplier with no bills in the last 12 months has no usual range yet.
• It covers Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent. Sage is not yet included.
• Checking a bill against a sales-tax period you have already filed is not yet available for US businesses: Nella does not yet track US sales tax.

A monthly bill with the same number each month, from a supplier who bills that way, is not flagged as a duplicate. Nella reads your books with the permission you gave when you connected; nothing in your books changes unless you give permission in Nella.
