How does Nella check whether your books are ready to close?
Ask Nella whether a month’s books are ready and its Financial Controller runs more than 30 checks across eight areas: data completeness, bank and cash, sales, purchases, payroll and taxes, the balance sheet, analytical review, and completion. The answer says ready, nearly ready or not ready, then lists the blockers, the unexplained differences, what is outstanding and every check that could not run.

Start freeOne question, a readiness answer for the month.
Overall readiness
Ready, nearly ready or not ready for the month you name, and why, in one line.
Blockers and unexplained items
What must be resolved first, and each unexplained difference with its amount and date.
Could not be assessed
Every check that did not run is named. A checklist that hides its gaps reads as a clean bill of health.
Who holds each item
Whether it sits with you or with your accountant.
What it does not do
Stated plainly, because a figure you can trust is one whose limits you know.
- A partly reconciled bank account is reported as unconfirmed, never as reconciled.
- Checks that need a feature your software lacks, such as a fixed asset register, show as not supported, never as passed.
- The tolerances behind each check are written and reviewed by qualified accountants. A check without a reviewed tolerance shows its figures and reaches no conclusion.
- It does not sign the month off or reconcile a tax return. Those stay with you and your accountant.
Ask “what is this difference?” and Nella searches your transactions for it and reports what matched; it does not guess a cause. More detail and a month-end checklist: Are my books ready to close?
Nella provides financial information and education, not accounting or tax advice. Nella shows you the numbers. When a question needs professional judgment, such as a filing or a tax decision, Nella says so and points you to a qualified accountant.
Where the data comes from
Nella connects to Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent. Nothing in your books changes unless you give permission in Nella.
How deeply it reads varies by platform — see the supported-platform table — and how your data is handled is set out in full.
