Read-only by default · how Nella handles your data
How does Nella work with Sage?
Nella connects to Sage through Sage’s own secure sign-in, then answers plain-English questions about your live figures — cashflow and runway, profit, and how your figures have moved month by month. It reads your Sage data. Nothing in your books changes unless you give permission in Nella. Gross margin is not available on Sage today, because the cost-of-sales split is not yet read; Nella says so rather than showing a figure it cannot stand behind.
What it reads
What Nella reads from Sage
- Monthly profit and loss, by section (revenue, expenses and net profit)
- Balance sheet position, built from your trial balance
- Bank reconciliation status, so unreconciled items are visible rather than silent
- Month-by-month trends, so you can see what changed and when
Nella’s Sage connection covers reporting-level figures: profit and loss, balance sheet, reconciliation status and monthly trends. It does not currently read down to individual ledger accounts, journals or the full chart of accounts — that deeper level is available on Xero and QuickBooks today. Two figures are deliberately withheld on Sage rather than estimated: gross margin and cost of sales, because the cost-of-sales split has not yet been confirmed against Sage’s chart of accounts, and the directors’ loan account, for the same reason. Outstanding invoices and bills are read but are not yet verified against live Sage data, so Nella reports them as unassessed where it cannot stand behind the figure. Nella tells you when something cannot be assessed rather than leaving you to assume there is nothing to see.

- “How much cash will I have at the end of next month?”
- “How has my cash position moved over the last six months?”
