How do you add a receipt to your books from ChatGPT or Claude?
Drop a photo or PDF of the receipt into ChatGPT or Claude and ask to add it to your books. The assistant reads the supplier, date, amount and tax, and Nella shows the bill in full on its card: the supplier, the account (from your supplier rule where there is one), the tax and the total, with any warning to tick, such as a possible duplicate. When you press the card’s button, Nella posts the bill to Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent and checks it in your books. The card then gives a link to attach the receipt; Nella attaches it to the bill and compares the receipt’s total with the entry.

The bill in full
Nella’s card shows exactly what will be posted, with any warning to tick — a possible duplicate, a tax period already filed, a new account for that supplier.
You approve
Press the card’s button. Nella posts the bill and reads it back from your books before saying it is done.
The receipt attached
Through a link valid for a day, Nella checks the file, attaches it to the bill, and compares the receipt’s total with the entry.
What it does not do
Stated plainly, because a figure you can trust is one whose limits you know.
- Nothing is posted until you press the card’s button. If you change anything, Nella shows a new card.
- ChatGPT and Claude don’t pass files on to Nella, so attaching the receipt is one more step, through a Nella link valid for a day.
- An entry can be undone from the card where your accounting software allows. An attachment is removed in your accounting software.
- It is not a capture app: receipts sent by email or a mobile app go through your accounting software’s own capture, and Nella checks those bills overnight.
FreeAgent takes a document on a bill or a bank explanation. Sage is not yet included. Nella never moves money: paying the bill stays with you.
Nella provides financial information and education, not accounting or tax advice. Nella shows you the numbers. When a question needs professional judgement, such as a filing or a tax decision, Nella says so and points you to a qualified accountant.
Where the data comes from
Nella connects to Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent. Nothing in your books changes unless you give permission in Nella.
