How does Nella handle prepayments?
When a bill covers more than one month, such as annual insurance or a yearly subscription, Nella lists it as a possible prepayment. You confirm the period it covers; Nella never guesses one. On your approval it posts a journal moving the cost to prepayments. Each month, every release due across your schedules appears on one card, worked out by day, and posts when you approve it.

Possible prepayments listed
Bills and payments whose wording suggests a period, with any dates the bill gives offered for you to confirm.
You confirm the cover
The start and end of the period. A bill with no confirmed cover is not spread.
The schedule is posted
One journal, on your approval, moving the cost from its expense account to prepayments.
Monthly releases on one card
Every release due that month, across every schedule, worked out by day and posted when you approve.
What it does not do
Stated plainly, because a figure you can trust is one whose limits you know.
- Nella never invents a period. A bill is spread only over the cover you confirm.
- Releases are worked out by day only: the cost times the days elapsed over the days covered, rounded to the nearest penny or cent.
- Undoing a schedule or a release takes it out of the next month’s card, which is worked out again from what is live.
- It works with Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent. Sage is not yet included.
If a supplier’s costs are never prepayments, tell Nella and it stops listing that supplier’s bills. Nella also flags a regular supplier with no bill this month as a possible accrual, for you or your accountant to consider. How posting is approved: Can AI post entries to Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent safely?
Nella provides financial information and education, not accounting or tax advice. Nella shows you the numbers. When a question needs professional judgement, such as a filing or a tax decision, Nella says so and points you to a qualified accountant.
