Read-only by default · how Nella handles your data

How does Nella work with WhatsApp?

Once your accounting software is connected, you can message Nella on WhatsApp and get answers about your own live figures — cashflow and runway, profit and margin, what is due and when. No app to install and nothing new to learn: it is a normal WhatsApp conversation.

What it reads

What Nella reads from WhatsApp

  • Plain-English answers about your live figures, in a normal chat
  • Your Nella Score and what moved it
  • Upcoming tax and filing dates
  • Anything flagged as worth a second look this month

Nella replies to numbers that have been linked to a connected business. An unlinked number gets no figures, so a forwarded message cannot expose your accounts. Proactive messages — where Nella starts the conversation rather than answering — come with Nella Paid.

In practice

Questions you can ask

  • “How much cash have I got right now?”
  • “What is my profit this month?”
  • “When is my next VAT return due?”
  • “How did my Nella Score change?”

Nella provides financial information and education, not accounting or tax advice.

Setup

How to connect WhatsApp

1 · Connect your accounting software

Through your provider’s own secure sign-in.

2 · Link your WhatsApp number

Confirm the number you want to use. Only a linked number can ask about your figures.

3 · Message Nella

Ask in plain English, whenever it suits — no app, no login.

The boundary

What Nella cannot do in WhatsApp

There is a fixed list of things Nella does not do in WhatsApp — not as a setting you could change, but because the permission is never requested.

  • Change anything in your accounting software without your permission
  • Answer for a business your number is not linked to
  • Give accounting or tax advice
